Cyren Call Update
|
Cyren Call's proposal for the
creation of a Public Safety Broadband Trust and the
allocation of 30 MHz of spectrum for a broadband
communications network answers the need for
nationwide interoperability. The proposed
network also charts a path for less expensive and
higher tech communications equipment by offering
manufacturers an opportunity to market to a larger
audience.
As of this publishing, over 400
public comments have been posted with the FCC and
nearly all support this proposal. We're told
that another 400 are waiting to be posted on the
website.
You too can
help support this measure by filing comment (through
11/29/06).
It's easy!

- Web-based Applications for Public Safety
|
Perhaps you've noticed the trend toward web-based
public safety applications. To understand what's driving
this trend, consider some of the benefits:
-
There's dramatically
less software and hardware to own and maintain.
-
Less local IT support is
required
-
Off-hours Support.
Public Safety isn't 8-5, but your IT support may be. A
public safety service provider is more equipped to provide
you off-hours emergency service.
-
Freedom of choice.
If the application isn't working for you, you can more
easily change to another solution
-
Security - information
isn't stored locally on your computers, so if a computer or
laptop is stolen, the thief won't have access to it.
-
Reduced Cost. When
you add up hardware, software and support, you'll almost
always find these conveniences still cost less than trying
to pull everything in house.

- Mandatory Narrowbanding (12.5 kHz) for
UHF/VHF Radio
|
Many current radio users are operating site
equipment that will have to be replaced within 6 years.
Does that sound like a long time?
Organizations should start planning now or they
may find themselves in a pickle.
Narrower channels can result in weaker signals
being received. This could cause a
reduction in radio coverage with your system. Don't be caught off
guard!
Agencies may also find themselves having to fund
an entire system change-out in one budget cycle unless they
incrementally upgrade their communications.
If you want help assessing what you have and what
you'll need to do, we're providing a free service to do just
that. Simply contact our local service shop.
