Marshalltown Economic Development Impact Committee (MEDIC) has lit up 20 downtown blocks with free wireless internet service.  It's part of a Digital City Initiative (DCI) to create a more vibrant community and attract workers, families and businesses to the area.  The goal is to provide free or reduced rate wireless internet access all across the city by the end of 2006.

The initial system is a pilot using Nortel Networks technology, designed and implemented by RACOM and Nortel.  RACOM is donating its expertise and manpower for the project, while Marshall County is donating its internet access.
