Public Safety Uses of Mobile Data:

Productivity

Threats facing our communities are increasing while governmental budgets are being squeezed.  Let's give public safety agencies the tools that can enable them to stay out on the streets and in the public view.

Officers can save 1-2 hours per shift and spend that time in the field.  That can be the equivalent of hiring more personnel.

How is this accomplished?

  • Email is a basic and necessary communications tool.  However, officers can’t check or send email while on patrol.  Today, they have to come to the office.
  • Reporting is a large part of every officer’s responsibilities, and it's a huge time commitment. Yet, officers can’t access, review, author and submit reports while out in the field.  What they can do today pales in comparison to what they could do with a high speed network connection.

Safety

Imagine an officer alone on routine traffic stop.  We know how dangerous that can be.  How can we make the situation safer?

There's a reason that someone spooks and turns on an officer.  There's something they don't want the officer to know about who they are what they've done.

Officers can be better prepared if they can querying state, NCIC and NLETS databases:

  • Is the vehicle stolen?

  • Who is the vehicle owner and what is the status of their plates?

  • Are their any wants/warrants?

  • Can you verify the DL photo?

  • etc.

Querying local records can be equally important.

  • Does the vehicle or driver match a suspect description?

  • Can you cross reference names and aliases?

  • Are you made aware of incidents involving this person but not submitted to state/federal databases?

  • Can you know if this driver was just pulled over minutes before by another agency?

Here are just some examples of how super fast delivery of data and video to and from public safety vehicles can dramatically improves their ability to protect the lives and property of the community and of other first responders.  We're sure you can think of many more!
